KentuckyDerbypicThroughout the world, the Twin Spires have become symbolic to Churchill Downs and “the greatest two minutes in sports,” the Kentucky Derby. TwinSpires is the official online betting site of the Kentucky Derby. This year the race takes place on May 2, 2015 at Churchill Downs.

The 141st running of the $2 million guaranteed Kentucky Derby (Grade I) is run on Saturday, May 2, 2015. The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race for three year-old Thoroughbred horses, held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, on the first Saturday in May. The race is one and a quarter miles at Churchill Downs. The race is known in the United States as “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports™” for its approximate duration, and is also called “The Run for the Roses” for the blanket of roses draped over the winner. It is the first leg of the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing and is followed by the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.

There are many great winners of the Kentucky Derby, including equine immortals such as War Admiral, Citation, Whirlaway, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed and Sunday Silence, and many others. Who will join this illustrious group when they “Run for the Roses” on the first Saturday in May?
