A Seemly Win for I Am Serious

| May 26, 2018

Chris Waller’s I Am Serious enjoyed a win appropriate to her: 15 minutes after registering his 11th Group One triumph for this season, Chris Waller went on to claim the Rosehill race named to honour his induction into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.

Comin’ Through, also trained by Waller, beat stablemate Egg Tart to the win at the Doomben Cup in Brisbane on Saturday, before I Am Serious chalked up her conclusive win in the Chris Waller Hall of Fame, a race extending over 1 400 metres.

James McDonald Rode Her to Glory

Punters who take note of stakes and probabilities, whether these be for horse racing or NRL premiership odds, will know that I Am Serious, a favourite at AU$3.5, was ridden by James McDonald, and drew away to beat La Chica Bella, at AU$10 by a total of one-and-three-quarter lengths. Princess Posh, at AU$6.5, ended the race another short half-head behind, taking third place.

A Good Representation by Waller’s Staff

Waller was at the Doomben Cup meeting in Brisbane as usual, but was excellently represented by his table staff. He heaped praise on the workforce when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

An Improvement by I Am Serious

I Am Serious won three races in the country for Bob Haire, and has now gone on to win another three in town, under Waller, for the Haire family.

Charlie Duckworth, the stable manager for Waller, stated that the ride was good, and that it was fitting that I Am Serious had won it. He added that the mare has made great strides in terms of improvement, stating that she had hit a flat spot first up, but had gotten better and better with each run she took part in.

Duckworth finished his statement by saying that the win was a wonderful one for the Haire family, who had come through for the day, and that they were all very happy to have been sent a Bob Haire horse.

McDonald, enjoying his first Saturday meeting since he returned from a ban extending over 18 months for betting offence, added this race to his previous win at the Dia De Reyes in the Highway Handicap. He said that I Am Serious is a good-looking animal, and that her last-start win was a good one. He then said that it was wonderful that she had claimed first place for a new inductee into the Hall of Fame in Waller.

Duckworth stated that Waller would be in charge of deciding what the next step for I Am Serious would be. She was the only Sydney winner for the stable for the day, and took Waller to 151 for this season as he keeps powering on towards his eighth Sydney Premiership victory.
