Fusaichi PegasusPegasus, Mortal: From the day Mr Fusao Sekiguchi of Japan purchased Fusaichi Pegasus for $4 million at a yearling sale in Kentucky, it was clear that this son of Mr. Prospector was something special. The colt stamped his greatness in no uncertain terms in the 1999 Kentucky Derby by swooping on the leaders and running away for a decisive victory. "Awesome" is the word most commonly used by onlookers of this smashing colt, rated by many as the finest looking thoroughbred ever to grace American soil. Joy captures this powerful specimen, his unique physique and his presence, in this magnificent portrait. Click here for medium (669x491, 67kb) or large (1301x954, 319kb) size formats.

Gone WestPortrait of a Thoroughbred: A phenomenal stud success, Gone West, continues to add to his long list of champion stakeswinners including Zafonic, Da Hoss, Lassigny and Commendable. Considered by many as heir apparent to his legendary sire Mr. Prospector, Gone West's progeny are keenly sought after by leading yearling buyers around the globe. Joy's accurate rendition here illustrates the keen eye and imposing stature that he imparts to his progeny. Click for medium (630x460, 57kb) and large (1259x920, 132kb) size formats.

NureyevNureyev: Champion miler in France and sire of 111 stakeswinners, Nureyev is the quintessential classic thoroughbred. By the mercurial Northern Dancer from the influential "footwear" clan of matriarch Rough Shod II, Nureyev is one of the worlds greatest sires having spawned a host of champions including Theatrical, Miesque, Soviet Star, Spinning World, Pientre Celebre, Sonic Lady and Zilzal, while more recently gaining legendary status on the bottom half of pedigrees, including those of major sires Zabeel and Kingmambo. Like his namesake, Nureyev is an imposing specimen and Joy's surreal interpretation, featuring prominantly the classic "look of eagles", is a glowing tribute to his omnipotent influence in modern day thoroughbred bloodlines.
