Classy galloper Boban overcame a mid race check to score a stunning last stride win in Saturday’s Group One Epsom Handicap.

In edging out proven group one winner Streama by a nose, Boban made it three straight wins and provided his record breaking trainer Chris Waller with a first win in the famous Randwick mile.

Boban produced a “Super Impose” like performance after the check, coming from second last on the corner to score a famous victory.

“Patience has been the key,” Waller said of Boban’s massive recent improvement. “We’ve managed to teach him to relax and that has made a real difference.”

Waller said the Emirates Stakes on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington would be a target for Boban.

A $100,000 purchase for BBA Ireland at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Boban was ridden to victory by former star South African based rider Glyn Schofield.

He was bred in Queensland by the Thomas family of Greendale Lodge and offered at the Gold Coast by the team from Millbrook.

Originally prepared by Anthony Freedman and a stakes winner in Brisbane for that trainer, Boban has gone to a new level in his latest campaign with three straight wins culminating in the Epsom.

Boban was one of three group winners on the Epsom card for Waller with Arinosa and Zoustar also producing outstanding efforts to score. All three of Waller’s stars are graduates of Magic Millions’ famous Gold Coast sale ring at Bundall.

In winning Boban sent his earnings to over $600,000 from six wins and two second placings from just 16 lifetime starts.

Boban is one of six winners, from seven to race, for the former outstanding Kenmare galloper Kenbelle.

A winner of three races including the Group One AJC Oaks and Group Two Queen of the Turf Stakes, Kenbelle is also the dam of the Melbourne and Sydney winner Rumour and Scandal and the 12 time Japanese winner Smart Pirates.

Kenbelle in turn is a half sister to the Todman Slipper Trial winner Auranch, a galloper who went to Malaysia and was a stakes performer there under the name of Titus III.
