In a racing career of 14 starts Grand Reve won 6 times and ran second a further four times for career earnings of $302,200.00
Initially trained by Dale Sutton at Wadham Park Queensland, Grand Reve showed ability and won over 1200m as a 2YO, but it was after his move to the stables of top Queensland trainer Brian Guy that his true potential began to reveal itself. A 2nd placing in Brisbane rounded out his 2YO year, but it was to be his classic year that saw Grand Reve prosper.
As a 3YO he opened his campaign with four wins back to back, all over 1200m, with two of the wins in Brisbane.
His first black type came in the Magic Millions 3YO trophy (RL) where he ran a gallant second to Gold Edition.
He then went on to win the Chief De Beers Quality (L) in Brisbane over 1110m defeating The Jackal and Enthusiast.
He met Gold Edition again in the Gold Coast Guineas (L) where he added to his black type by coming second to the exceptional filly, but defeating Danleigh.
In his final start in the BTC Classic (Group 3) he came up against Gold Edition again, and again defeated the rest of the field to run an honourable second to the very good filly.
Grand Reve retires to stud for the 2008 season, and thereby gives Australian breeders a chance to access a genuine untainted Star Kingdom line stallion.
Grand Reve is the son of evergreen sire Canny Lad, winner of the Golden Slipper and the VRC Sires Produce, and sire of 43 individual stakes winners including 9 and Group 1 level. In Grand Reve’s veins flows the sire’s blood of Bletchingly, Biscay, Star Kingdom and Lunchtime.
Grand Reve’s dam is the stakes winning mare Recce, herself a daughter of Spectacular Love, a grand son of Bold Bidder, and with a dam line that includes Royal Yacht and Showdown, Grand Reve has a female line that oozes talented juvenile bloodlines.
An attractive chestnut horse, Grand Reve stands 16hh and has excellent conformation. His availability at stud in 2008 will be a real bonus to any breeder that wants to access the Star Kingdom bloodline untouched by Northern Dancer.
Grand Reve will stand at Ilala Stud in 2008 at a fee of $6,600 with negotiable payment terms to suit all breeders.
As with all Ilala Stallions, 10% of the stud’s stallion income will be donated to SIDS research, and related charities. Make your service fee help the wider community.
