Deebee Belle should excite judicious breeders

Breeders planning matings for their broodmares later this year had much to enthuse over when dwelling on the Group I Ellerslie Asian Racing Federation Stakes winner Deebee Belle.

By the Rainbow Quest import Bin Ajwaad, from Deebee Lady (Brilliant Invader—Cute Fox, by homebred Fox Myth), Deebee Belle experienced a thoroughly deserved success in the 2000m weight-for-age test after matching New Zealand’s top middle distance gallopers throughout the summer months.

After dwelling on Deebee Belle’s racing background, judicious breeders will find succour from studying her bloodlines as they plan for the coming breeding season.

A five-year-old, Deebee Belle made an impact at three years when second in Danamite’s Avondale Guineas.

Maturing at aged four last season she won five times, including a triple involving events at Avondale, Te Rapa and Wellington.

On her current campaign she has matched and met the best in the Group II Counties Cup, was second in the Avondale Cup Handicap and in Greene Street’s Waikato International win before annexing the $200,000 Asian Racing Federation Stakes for the Matamata training partners Tony and Pam Gillies and the mare’s owners the Deebee Belle syndicate.

Deebee Belle’s sire Bin Ajwaad went to stud in England in 1996 and was shuttled to the Wedgewood Stud at Matamata later that year and in 1997. Apart from Deebee Belle his best runner here was the Moroney/Scott representative Dance Class, who had bonus returns as a juvenile.

Deebee Belle has a delightful female tail line descending from the English product Miss Cute, a 1920 Charles O’Malley mare imported by T H Lowry in 1924. Early stars included Beaupartir (NZ St Leger, Easter Mile), the upset Wellington Cup winner Lambourn and Gulf Stream (CJC Winter Cup).

From this line came the outstanding filly Key and her descendants Mop, Vickey Av, Cure and company while another line produced the all-conquerting stayer Rising Fast.

Here’s a message for breeders. Deebee Belle has a pedigree simply oozing with strains emanating from Fair Trial (four lines), his half sister Tudor Melody (twice) and five presences from their very close relation Nasrullah. These factors are basically found between the fifth and seventh removes.

Breeders with mares endowed with these close relations should browse through stallions with further lines involving these names.

With a little care and planning another Deebee Belle could eventuate with careful input involving the Fair Trial, Tudor Minstrel and Nasrullah factors. It’s an exercise worth pursuing.
