The key name he carries is the all-conquering, internationally renowned Mr Prospector.
Stravinsky (Nureyev-Fire The Groom, by Blushing Groom) scored his first Group I success Down Under when his son Keeninsky (ex So Keen, by Jade Hunter—So Soon, by So Vain) took last weekend’s 1400m Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes. Keeninsky represents his first crop.
Stravinsky is blessed with a prepotent Mr Prospector strain, which should see him to real advantage at stud.
Mr Prospector (Raise A Native–Gold Digger, by Nashua) is carried in Stravinsky through a daughter Prospector’s Fire, who is Stravinsky’s second dam.
Around the world there is a growing Mr Prospector presence but he is mainly seen through sons (and even more sons!)
But Mr Prospector carried through a daughter (as is Stravinsky) is a rare presence.
Where linebreeding guidelines are concerned Mr Prospector sons, when doubled up in family trees, can downgrade thoroughbred families and produce plodders.
But Stravinsky is risk free in this area with his female Mr Prospector line.
Mind you, fillies can cope with the all-male lines without too much difficulty but these duplications can be taboo for the colts.
But when Mr Prospector is found through both male and female strains in a union, the results can be exciting as witnessed with Keeninsky.
There are something like 18 stallions in New Zealand with a Mr Prospector son present in their family tree. Apart from Stravinsky, it appears that San Luis, His Royal Highness and Minardi are other sires with a female Mr Prospector presence, available to breeders.
Mr Prospector is becoming more and more popular with some studmasters but when the stallions breed with other mares carrying Mr Prospector’s male line, the results chance mediocrity unless a filly foal results.
At a published $18,000 stud fee Stravinsky wont suit every breeder’s pocket but His Royal Highness ($5000), San Luis ($5000) and Minardi ($15,000) are other competitively priced alternatives.
Stravinsky is beautifully credentialed to leave wonderful equine athletes with this great female Mr Prospector factor.
Manawatu winner Keeninsky may be a forerunner to many more topliners.
