She is a three year old filly by Sandtrap out of Gigabite by Straight Strike out of Puckles Fair by St Puckle out of Persian Fair by Fairs Fair out of Persian Pride.
Gigabite won a race at 2 and has bred 6 foals for just the one runner, the winner Megabite (Four Seasons) who won 6 races at 1100m and 1200m in the South Island of New Zealand.
Puckles Fair was unraced and bred 10 foals of which 7 raced for 6 winners including the G2 winning Central Districts galloper The Bishop, top colt 1986-87 NZ 3YO Free Handicap (11 wins 1200m to 2200m). The Bishop was also placed in the G1 NZ Derby and the G1 Avondale Cup. Puckles Fair is also the granddam of G3 winner Dynamic Lady (6 wins 1400m to 1600m).
Third dam Persian Fair won 6 races from 1200m to 1600m and bred 5 named foals though only one ran (unplaced).
Persian Pride won over 2400m in the G1 Great Northern Oaks and bred 6 named foals for 4 to race and 2 winners.
Terabyte is intensely inbred to 8 generations, her sire and dam sharing over 80% of their genes in common. The most important part of this pedigree is the Sandtrap/Straight Strike cross. Sandtrap is a male line descendant of Never Bend who is also the damsire of Straight Strike, giving Terabyte 4x4 linebreeding to Never Bend. Never Bend is carried via son Riverman and daughter Bend Not, these two meshing well together.
Never Bend is by Nasrullah (Nearco - Mumtaz Begum) out of the upgrading mare Lalun by the disappointing sire Djeddah out of Be Faithful by Bimelech (Black Toney - La Troienne by Teddy) out of Bloodroot (Blue Larkspur - Knockaney Bridge). Lalun happens to be 5x4x4 Teddy.
Riverman's dam River Lady carries a further line of upgrader Blue Larkspur and his granddam is 3x3 Teddy.
Bend Not's dam Jennie Sue is by Royal Serenade, a son of Nasrullah's 3/4 brother Royal Charger, out of Jenjay by Brookfield (Bimelech - Knockaney Bridge). This brings together the 3/4 relations Be Faithful and Brookfield. Bimelech is carried 4x4, he being out of Teddy's daughter La Troienne.
A number of other presences in Terabyte's pedigree reinforce this background of Never Bend.
I was doing a search for Sandtrap's stakeswinning progeny and came across an article by Jack Glengarry (http://www.glengarrybooks.co.nz/chatter/040914.html ) dated 14 Sept 2004 detailing the affinities that certain lines had with Sandtrap. In particular, the 1W and 14c lines of Lavendula II and Pretty Polly stood out.
Sheka carried a number of 1W family members and a duplication of Sybil's Niece (14C). Be Happy For Us's dam carried three lines of 14C family member Donatello II and a line of St Paddy (14C), damsire of Morcon.Further research by myself showed three further stakeswinners bred on the Sandtrap/Straight Strike cross.
Listed winners African Forest and Ecstatic and the G1 winner Bunker. African Forest carried a line of St Paddy via third damsire Sucaryl. This is the Sister Sarah (14C) line who is granddam of Sybil's Niece in Sheka.
Ecstatic carries Sucaryl as third damsire.
Bunker has Oncidium as third damsire who carries Donatello II and lines of the 1W family including the full sisters Rose Red and Sweet Lavender 4x5.
Listed winner Hazard duplicates Riverman 3x4 and her dam Elle Taine is 4x4 Wilkes whose damsire Sind travels back tail female to Pretty Polly's dam Admiration.
Listed winner Partee's dam Te Akau Jo carries Lavendula II 6x6x6x6.
G3 winner Sand Sweeper's dam Calm As carries lines of Lavendula II and Nearctic (14C). A line of Tehran goes back to Admiration. Sand Sweeper's granddam carries Alycidon 4x4. Alycidon is particularly effective here as he is by Donatello II (14C) out of a daughter of Rose Red (1W).
How does Terabyte dip into this mix of Lavendula II/Pretty Polly? Well, she does have a line of Sweet Lavender but much more importantly, she has St Paddy as sire of St Puckle, her granddam sire.
Terabyte looks one to follow once she starts racing.
