Speed sensation Better Than Ready (by More Than Ready) standing at Lyndhurst Stud in Queensland.

Since the news broke on 4 February that Better Than Ready (BTR) is headed to Lyndhurst to commence his stud career, the interest in this Randwick record breaking high class speed horse has been astounding.

Applications for share documents have been going out at an exciting rate. Judging by the response which extends even to the Hunter Valley the stallion is assured a high class book of mares for his first season. Already his book will contain a large percentage of stakes mares, dams of stakes performers and sisters and half-sisters to stakes winners including a number of Group 1 performers.

His class is well recognised not only by Queensland trainers but by many southern trainers as well, which augers well for his yearlings when they arrive at the sales. The quality of his book will assure representation at the major sales, where they will have every chance of ending up in leading stables. Anyone with select sale quality mares can use Better Than Ready with some confidence that their yearlings will be considered for the majors. When they arrive with Better Than Ready’s looks they will demand catalogue inclusion. With a limited number of shares available, priced at $23,550 +GST for 2 lifetime nominations per annum and a service fee set at $9,000 + GST, breeders have an undeniable opportunity to produce popular, profitable, commercial yearlings at an affordable price.

His pedigree and physical type are highly compatible with most of the Australian broodmare population especially the Danehill/Danzig line. His sire More Than Ready has nicked with that line, producing a large proportion of his stakes winners. His nick with Marscay produced 25% stakes horses to runners, 19% stakes winners and 85% winners to runners, an amazing feat considering the age of the Marscay mares covered. The Mr Prospector male line has also been very successful.

More Than Ready has been a Champion Sire of Two Year-Olds in the US (2010) and Australia (2007-08, 08-09). He has 1285 winners, worldwide (to early February) for earnings topping $138m and his 135 stakes winners are a high 7.7% (starters to SW). He has more than 530 winners of $56.44m in Australia led by champion mare More Joyous (Sunday Silence, 3mx3m Halo) with 21 wins and earnings of $4.4m including eight Gr.1 successes. Other notable Australian performers include Golden Slipper winner and boom young sire Sebring (Flying Spur), Blue Diamond heroine Samaready (Secret Savings), Perfectly Ready (Danehill), Dreamaway (Danehill), More Than Sacred (Danehill), Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready (Blevic), South African Gr.1 winner Gimmethegreenlight (Canny Lad), Carry on Cutie (Conquistarose), Benicio (Danehill). His US stars include dual Gr.1 winner Verrazano (Giant’s Causeway), Room Service (Old Trieste), Regally Ready (King of Kings), Buster’s Ready (Honor and Glory), Daredevil (Forty Niner) and the Breeders’ Cup Turf Juvenile-Gr.2 winner Pluck (ex Secret Heart by Fort Wood).

Better Than Ready’s dam Sally’s World won five races up to 1200m, including one at two, and is a daughter of the Prix de l’Abbaye-Gr.1 and July Cup-Gr.1 winner Agnes World (USA) (Danzig-Mysteries by Seattle Slew) who travelled to Europe from Japan where he set the country’s 1200m record of 1:06.50, to capture these major sprints. He is a half-brother to another Gr.1-winning sprinter Hishi Ikebono (by More Than Ready’s dam sire Woodman). Agnes World left Caulfield Guineas-Gr.1 winner Wonderful World (Success Express) and Listed winners Mister Celestial (Mukaddamah) and Global Warming (Flying Spur) in three Australian shuttle seasons (2001-03).

Next dam, the Magic Millions 2YO Classic-RL runner-up Sally Magic, a winner at 1000m-1100m, is by the Lightning Stakes-Gr.1 winner Keltrice (Kenmare (FR)-Vain Display by Vain). Vain Display won the Sweet Embrace-Gr.2 at two and is a daughter of champion Vain and Toltrice. Sally Magic’s five winners include Gr.3-winning sprinter Publishing (Testa Rossa) and speedy Listed winner and Group placed Miss Mooney Mooney (Redoute’s Choice).

Better Than Ready’s third dam Sleep Time Girl continues this speed theme at she won the SAJC Dequetteville Stakes-LR at two and she is by another champion in Century. She left seven winners including stakes placed juvenile Illustrious (Zeditave) and her dam Tequila Sunrise (Brave Lad (GB)-Sleepyhead by Daybreak (IRE) is a three-quarter sister to Blue Diamond Stakes-Gr.1 winner and sire Rancher. This is family 18 (Manto (GB)) and Better Than Ready’s sixth dam is the VRC Oaks winner Mintaway (Orgoglio (GB)).

By a noted sire of juveniles who already has a star sire son in Sebring and with Gr.1 sprinters as the sires of his first three dams, Better Than Ready lived up to this speed inheritance on the track and looks set to do the same at Lyndhurst where he will get every opportunity from a stud noted for making stallions.

Join in the excitement and call Jeff or Griff Kruger using the Lyndhurst banner on the Thoroughbred Village homepage and order your application form or book a nomination. Don’t forget to tell them I sent you. Mayor
