Daylami, the international superstar: Daylami crowned a fantastic 1999 season by becoming the first European-trained winner of a Breeders Cup race at Gulfstream Park. Ridden by Frankie Dettori, the gallant grey won four Group One races in 1999, including the King George at Ascot as well as his famous Breeders Cup Turf triumph, cementing his position as the most popular Flat racehorse of recent years. He will be remembered for his courage, versatility and undoubted brilliance. Jaki has produced a stunning half life-size rendition of Daylami in pastel and charcoal on paper. The horse is painted on Godolphin blue-coloured paper. Colours are shaded using charcal and the horse drawn in white chalk (pastel). The painting sold on the opening night of Jaki's sell-out exhibition in St. Albans London. Click for larger (341x547, 41kb) size format.

Singspiel: Singspiel is another international champion with the Japan Cup and the Dubai World Cup amongst his many victories. Singspiel was foaled in Ireland in 1992, from the first crop of Breeders' Cup Turf winner In The Wings out of North American champion Glorious Song. He may shuttle to Australia for the 2001 breeding season as part of Darley Stud's new breeding operation in the southern hemisphere. This piece is a half life-size study in pastel. It was purchased in Dubai to be given as a gift to Sheikh Mohammed, although Jaki has no way of knowing if he ever got it! Click for larger (329x463, 27kb) size format.

Lammtarra: Lammtarra was one of those elite champions that won the Derby, the King George and the Arc. He was bred to be great, being a son of Derby winner Nijinsky out of Oaks heroine Snow Bride. This is a very big piece. The horses are not quite half life-size but appear that way in the frame. Again charcoal on parchment, Jaki wanted to create the illusion of a black and white photo. The horses are Lammtarra and Pentire in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Stakes of 1995 at Ascot. Click for larger (533x401, 52kb) size format.
