Two early stakes winners for QLD stud

E-mail Print PDF

JON HASELER headed Glenlogan Park stud at Innisplain in Queensland has charged into the new racing year with two home bred interstate stakes winners in the first two weeks. They opened their account on August 7 when 4-year-old Mossman mare Love Conquers All recorded a commanding win in the Group 3 Missile Stakes at Randwick and followed last Saturday with a close but eye catching victory by 3-year-old colt Toorak Toff in the Vain Stakes at Caulfield.

The Toff was one of two sons of Glenlogan’s champion Queensland sire Show a Heart to put in a fine performance at stakes level at the Caulfield meeting. The other was 5-year-old Heart of Dreams and he looks set for another big spring following a third in Shoot Out’s J.J. Liston Stakes.

Now earner of $1,250,000, Heart of Dreams has five Group1 cheques to his credit, wins in the VRC Australian Guineas and MRC Underwood Stakes, a second in the MRC C.F. Orr and Caulfield Stakes and a fourth in the VRC Australian Cup.

More good Group1 efforts are predictable for Heart of Dreams in the coming spring, but the big boomer for Show a Heart could be the Rick Hore-Lacy trained Toorak Toff. Successful in the SAJC National Stakes, Adelaide 2YO Classic and MRC  Midnight Fever Plate and fourth in the AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes in his six outings at two, he could emulate his sire and take out the Caulfield Guineas.

He has maternal breeding that suggests the1600m of that race should suit. A $135,000 Magic Millions yearling, he was got by Show a Heart from Orong, an unraced sister by the shuttled Chief’s Crown prominent European miler  Grand Lodge to Avilde (six wins to 2040m) and nearly a three-quarter sister to Super Lacuna (won to 1800m).

The continuing rising in eminence as a sire by Show a Heart could prove very valuable to Australian breeding as he reinvigorates the Star Kingdom male line. He is a fifth generation descendant, going back through Brave Warrior, Cossack Warrior, Bletchingly and Biscay.
