Racing’s top National Hunt action at Cheltenham Festival

| March 12, 2018

Cheltenham Festival is tops for National Hunt racing

The Cheltenham festival is here which brings about a huge amount of excitement for racing fans as the iconic racing is the top national hunt action over the season. There are a long list of star horses to look forward too but there is one that stands out from the crowd and that is star novice Samcro. Trained by Gordon Elliott he has quickly become the most talked about horse in training as his hype continues to rise. The 6 year old son of Germany has continued to look a class above despite the opposition he has faced. You can now bet on the races at the festival with Samcro heading to the Ballymore novices hurdle.

Samcro is the current 8/11 favourite with Betfair and would likely be a lot shorter had he raced at Cheltenham before. Coming into this season he had won his first 3 bumpers that including a final 17 length victory. He still had gone slightly under the radar having not contested races such as the Champion bumper at the festival with connections looking to save him from a test like that at an early stage of his career.

Samcro was sent off at odds of 1/5 to win his first start this season in a maiden in which he defeated Mind’s Eye by 15 lengths. Mind’s eye then went on to land a maiden and a handicap in his following two starts to further enhance the form. He then stepped up to grade 3 class in the Monksfield at Navan and beat a decent field on the bridle by 12 lengths with Jetz in second.

His final start to date was his first big test in a grade 1 with many punters looking to take him on. He started at odds of 4/6 and victory never looked in doubt. He cruised round just behind the leaders and put the race to bed in a matter of strides. This was one of the most eye catching performances of a novice in recent times which is why his hype has only further increased. Samcro must now go to Cheltenham and deliver on the biggest stage with connections eyeing a tilt at the Gold Cup in a few seasons time but there is no doubting he is the most exciting young horse around. Check out the infographic below which covers the leading jockey title race and the horses heading the chances.
